Tax Trilogy Lends a Helping Hand to Gleaners Community Food Bank
Dearborn, MI, August 6, 2012 - Tax Trilogy, LLC, an indirect tax compliance and consulting firm specializing in the areas of sales, use, excise, and property tax, lent a helping hand to Gleaners Community Food Bank, the largest nonprofit organization providing food for our hungry neighbors in Southeastern Michigan.
As part of Tax Trilogy’s long-standing commitment to the communities
of the Metro Detroit Area and its newly founded corporate
responsibility initiative, the organization has encouraged its
professionals to volunteer at various non-profit organizations
throughout the region. This initiative is in response to the
needs of the various communities throughout the region and was kicked
off at Gleaners Community Food Bank located in Detroit on July 31,
2012. The group volunteered by filling agency orders. This
included gathering food in the warehouse, double checking and packing
all orders so it could be shipped to various agencies. In total the
group packed 22 orders which equated to 47, 837 pounds of food.
For more than 35 years, Gleaners has been "nourishing communities by
feeding hungry people.” Last year, they distributed 40 million
pounds of emergency food to over 600 partner soup kitchens, shelters
and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe
counties. Gleaners alleviates hunger by providing the equivalent
of 85,284 meals per day to people who otherwise cannot afford the food
they need.
Of every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 94 cents for food and food programs. Just one dollar provides three meals for a hungry neighbor!
